Once the crop is established it can last for 20 years or more. The crop is harvested annually in the spring having naturally ripened over the winter.
Due to the woody nature of miscanthus, the dust content is low, particles created during harvest are removed during packaging. It is produced in a sustainable manner at Fennington Farm and local farmer growers specifically for this market. It is very absorbent and can hold fluid up to 3 times its own weight. There are no pesticides or artificial fertilisers used on established crops.
The miscanthus is securely compacted in strong, heat sealed and easy to handle bales which weigh approximately 22kg.
It is mainly sold for horse bedding, but it is also excellent for chickens, pheasants, reptiles, dogs and all types of farm animals.
As it is biodegradable, the muck heaps are kept to a minimum and it can be used on the garden as a fantastic mulch.
The dust is extracted which means it is free from fungal spores, both of which cause respiratory problems in animals and their carers. It also does not cling to manes and tails.
